What you will learn
The ANU Bachelor of Health Science offers a variety of courses covering biology, chemistry, research methods, population health, professional practice, physiology, pharmacology and human disease.
There are two options of study available in this program, the pre-medicine pathway and the applications of health pathway. Both pathways will prepare you for a future career in medicine or a related field. You will have the option of applying for an honours year towards the end of your third year of study.

ANU welcomes its first Bachelor of Health Science students
In 2018, ANU welcomed the first cohort of Bachelor of Health Science students which will lead them to medicine or other health professions.

Meet some of your teachers
Dr Joshua Chu-Tan
Josh, a lecturer at the John Curtin School of Medical Research and the ANU Medical School, co-convenes Medical Physiology and Pharmacology.
In his research, he is developing a new eye injection that has the potential to stop the progression of dry age-related macular degeneration, which could potentially save millions of people from going blind.
Josh’s passion and strong track-record in science communication has earned him numerous awards, including first prize at the Asia-Pacific 3 Minute Thesis competition.
Dr Merryn McKinnon
Merryn, Senior Lecturer at the Australian National Centre for the Public Awareness of Science, convenes Health Promotion Principles and Practice.
As a science communicator, Merryn regularly appears in the national media discussing interesting science topics from around the world.
Her research explores why the public reacts and responds to scientific issues the way they do, in a variety of different disciplines including public health.
Health Science careers
The Bachelor of Health Science can launch your career path in medicine, allied health, health organisations and the public service, including in hospitals, public health units, healthcare foundations and academia.
You will graduate with an impressive skillset that includes knowledge of the biomedical sciences, an understanding of the biological, social and economic factors contributing to health outcomes, and research skills related to biomedical science, population health and public health policy.

There are different ways to apply to ANU, the best way for you to apply depends on your circumstances.
Direct applications to the ANU are for school leavers only. If you are a mature age student, non-school leaver, or transferring from another university you will need to apply via UAC. Remember to attach your supporting documents.

- Make sure you understand the admission requirements for your chosen degree by reading them carefully on Programs and Courses website.
- All applicants must meet the University’s English Language Admission Requirements for Students.
Meet the co-curricular or service requirement
In addition to meeting academic requirements, we have introduced a compulsory co-curricular or service requirement.
Make sure you have met the co-curricular or service requirement and provide the appropriate documentation.
Gather supporting documents
Admission to the Bachelor of Health Science is based on meeting the minimum selection rank requirement and involves an assessment of suitability based on the questions included in this form. Please have your application number and responses ready before completing the form. After you have submitted the form we will email you a link to amend your responses, should you need to, by the deadline.
For domestic applicants applying direct to ANU: The final deadline to add the Bachelor of Health Science as a preference is 13 May 2024. The final deadline to submit the form is 20 May 2024 (you must have submitted your application by 13 May 2024). We will assess your application based on your Year 11 results plus any adjustments and the Bachelor of Health Science Supplementary Form. Offers will be released in the September round only. Those who accept their September offer will have their offer honoured and confirmed in the December or January round as long as they complete Year 12 with an ATAR. The Bachelor of Health Science will not be available to add during the change of preference dates and no new offers will be released in the December or January round.
For domestic applicants applying via UAC: The final deadline to add the Bachelor of Health Science as a preference and submit the form is 1 December 2024.

For international applicants applying via UAC: The final deadline to add the Bachelor of Health Science as a preference and submit the form is 1 December 2024.
