The Canberra Hospital campus

ANU Medical School Caberra Hospital campus

Students and staff from the ANU College of Health & Medicine deliver the highest standard of professional healthcare services to the ACT community by partnering with ACT Canberra Health Services, including the Canberra and Calvary Hospitals.

The SPIRE Project

The Australian National University (ANU) will continue to play a major role in improving health in the ACT and surrounding regions as part of major upgrades to the Canberra Hospital announced by the ACT Government.

The University will develop new state-of-the-art facilities in conjunction with the Surgical Procedures, Interventional Radiology and Emergency (SPIRE) Centre.

Alongside a significant investment from the ACT Government, ANU will develop world-class research, education and training facilities at the Canberra Hospital.

The new facilities will help develop and attract the best clinicians, promote quality, safety and value in the health system, and make available the latest cutting-edge research and technology.

They will ensure Canberra is a hub for contemporary medical education that harnesses advanced approaches to simulation and technology-enhanced learning.

Metropolitan Clinical Teaching Unit

The Canberra Hospital campus is the ANU Medical School metropolitan based clinical teaching unit.

We pride ourselves on our teaching program which has a strong foundation of basic and clinical sciences, and the depth and breadth of the student experience during years three and four of the Medicinae ac Chirurgiae Doctoranda (MChD) program, Latin for Doctor of Medicine and Surgery.

Academic Unit of General Practice

The Academic Unit of General Practice is a community resource committed to providing excellence in health education. Based at the Canberra Hospital, it is funded by the ANU Medical School and ACT Health. The unit's activities span education, research and community service.

The nationally recognised General Practitioner Vocational Training Group provides all of the GP registrar training in the ACT and South East NSW region and continuing medical education for specialist GPs. The unit also supports overseas trained doctors in attaining fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.

The Academic Unit of General Practice is committed to improving Australia’s capacity to undertake high quality primary health care research. Several of our major research projects have evolved from the kindergarten screening program coordinated with ACT Community Health Maternal & Child Health nurses since 1998.
